Finally, someone dumb enough to leave their address

So as most of you know I currently have a side job working in a restaurant. Many of us servers are very familiar with the "tracks" a.k.a. bible pamphlets many people leave us with our tips to ensure that we have "found Jesus"... because we all know if you work in the restaurant industry you're probably a heathen, right? Well today I had a large group of people from a particular church pretty much stiff me, but leave these lovely pamphlets.. HOWEVER, on these pamphlets included the not only the name of their church and its website, but also the name of its pastor. SOOOOOOOOOO... me being in a bad mood today, and feeling rather feisty. I wrote Mr. John W. "Brent" Stancil, a little letter about his congregation. Check it out:

Hi there Pastor Stancil,

I come to you from outside your church with a concern. I currently work in a restaurant, even despite the fact that I have graduated from college with a Bachelor's degree. With the economy in this state, many of us recent grads have been working in the service industry just to keep on our feet. I moved to St. Petersburg last Saturday and I transferred my job here. Today was my second day of work in St. Pete, but I have been working for this particular company for quite awhile. It's been quite a struggle to get settled, but I believe I am here for a reason.

Well today I apparently had some members of your congregation in my section of the restaurant. Granted, I only had two tables because I was well... unlucky in that regard today I suppose. There were nine of your church members who sat together in both of my tables. I busted my butt catering to them and making sure I executed the job in a timely, friendly and accurate manner. The table required four separate checks and over $85 of food service. They were rather high maintenance, but it's my job to ensure that they have a pleasant experience, which I think I succeeded in doing.

Unfortunately, as they exited, they left behind these little "Weathering the Storms of Life" pamphlets, which I have absolutely no problem with. HOWEVER, only TWO of the FOUR checks left me a tip. One left me $6 inside one of these pamphlets (which was nice) and one left me $1 in another identical pamphlet. I found this a little ironic, because a $1 tip is sort of offensive, on top of the fact that it also represented your church because the pamphlet includes not only your address, but your service times and well... your name Mr. Stancil.

Granted, I agree with the pamphlet. "Every person is a sinner." BUT, not every person is stupid enough to tip someone offensively (or not at all in this case) and leave the name, number and address to their church.
I would imagine that it should be embarrassing for your church to be known to leave struggling waitresses no money as two of the checks (5 members) left absolutely nothing. I have grown up in church and am very spiritual, so I find it odd that while your members are leaving me pamphlets about how to live my life, they seem to be contradicting the bible themselves.

I have always been generous because I believe that what you give you will eventually receive ten-fold. However, I'm not putting myself on a pedestal because I don't expect everyone to act this way, and certainly not all the time. And no, I am not holding any sort of grudge towards your church as I also believe that my faith in God is far bigger than this situation.

But I thought maybe this could inspire you. While your members are out spreading horrible PR for your church, I thought maybe you could deliver this message to your congregation for me:

"One man gives freely, yet gains even more;
another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
A generous man will prosper;
he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed."

Proverbs 11:24-25

Thank you for reading this and God bless,

-Jessica

Oh yes, here's a shining example of why you do not leave your name and address after tipping poorly. DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

You've totally got to let me know if he writes you back. That's hilarious!!! I hate it when people go out to eat and then don't want to tip an appropriate amount. I feel like if you can't afford it, order something cheaper OR don't go out to eat!!!

You tell them, Jess! You have to let us know the response you get, if any!
